ISO 17799 or ISO17799 Timeline

ISO 17799 Timeline: A Short History

ISO 17799 is actually a very mature standard: a teenager in fact. The very first version was published as the 'Code of Practice for Information Security Management' by the Department of Trade and Industry, part of the United Kindgom Government, in 1992.

A few years later (95), BSI adopted it as the very first BS7799. There was a great fanfare of publicity at the time. In 1999 it was significantly revised and updated, and certification schemes were introduced.

At the end of 2000, BS7799 finally became ISO 17799. This remained current until the last revision in June 2005.
